tbh I don’t think they learn very much about the different types of snakes in school or something. Thailand has tons of snakes. So the right reaction for a survival point of view is “omg snake! runnnnnnn”

    Thai people:

seeing a 5 ton elephant: “just pray to him”

seeing a snake: *falls over* *screams bloody* *jumps in tuk tuk and drives all night to the next changwat*

    might be relevant: https://thailandsnakes.com/all-thailand-snakes-by-species-and-common-name/

“With over 200 species in the country, there are many snakes that look VERY similar to each other. A noted biologist, Dr. Joseph Slowinski, died when bitten on the finger by a very small krait years ago while helping in Burma. His assistant misidentified the snake and Dr. Slowinski reached into it only to find the krait attached to his finger. He died about 35 hours later.”

maybe they’re not as stupid as you think. just risk averse!
